(Lake Forest, CA August 29, 2011) Headlined by two all-new helmets and an expanded array of ExoWear apparel, Scorpion unveils its Fall 2011 collection. “Having two new helmet models as well as four new jackets is very exciting for our dealer base and loyal consumers,” says Product Manager Michael MacGregor. “Helmets, gloves and outerwear… Scorpion has you covered with dynamic gear for the coming season.”

Not to steal attention away from the new catalog, but the EXO-1100 has all Scorpion’s top of the line features, including their new TCT ® helmet shell technology, KwikWick2 ® anti-bacterial liner, SpeedShift ® quick-change faceshield system and full DOT/ECE R22.05 certification. All of these features are packed into a lightweight package with prices starting at $289.95. Four strong graphic schemes and a range of solid colorways ensure that the EXO-1100 will warrant a closer look. For the off-road crew, Scorpion’s VX-34 with its edgy styling, superior ventilation and AirFit system is also headlined in the Fall 2011 catalog.

In addition to a look at the latest lids, the latest ExoWear riding gear is highlighted as well, with four new jackets being introduced alongside some returning favorites. The ladies don’t get left out either, as Scorpion introduces the Lilly jacket with styling elements matched to the popular EXO-400 Lilly helmet graphic.
Art directed by in-house graphics guru Scott Wilkinson, Scorpion’s Fall 2011 catalog features 92 pages of something for every type of rider, from the snowmobile set to the dirt junkies and every style of streetbike riding in between. Speaking of the catalog, the delivery mechanism is equally impressive. Not only is the entire catalog online at the www.ScorpionUSA.com website, but there is even a free iPhone/iPad app specifically for the Fall 2011 Collection. With the app, you can access the entire range of ExoWear and helmet lines at the touch of a button to see every style and colorway available.

Longest Off-Road Race in US Goes Off Without a Hitch

Reno, Nev.— The Vegas to Reno Off-Road Race brought more than 1,000 people through 16 rural Nevada communities and over 500 miles of BLM desert last weekend. While race safety is a priority in permitting the event, the economic boost to these communities is vital, too.

There were no major accidents and only a couple of minor medical incidents. The BLM will continue to permit off-highway-vehicle racing on public lands while working with promoters and participants to improve safety and reduce the impacts to public lands.

“The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was comfortable permitting this event,” said Leo Drumm, outdoor recreation planner. “The race promoter, Best in the Desert, has a good safety record and planned for all contingencies.”

The race is held annually on established roads on public lands in Nevada. The race has continued running for over 20 years and has become a part of the state’s history.

Starting near Beatty, Nev., to avoid Mojave desert tortoise habitat, motorcycles, quads, buggies and trophy trucks headed north and traveled through 16 rural Nevada towns along the way. In Tonopah, restaurants were full and gas stations were busy.

Before issuing the Special Recreation Permit (SRP) for the Best in the Desert Racing Association, the BLM analyzed the Environmental Assessments (EA) used for permitting the event in previous years and determined the EAs provided adequate environmental analysis to permit the even for this year.

Maxxis' Matt Parks 2nd UTV at BITD Vegas to Reno

Matt Parks took the second-place spot in the UTV class at Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno race, held August 19 in Nevada.

Having drawn the first starting position, Parks held the lead for much of the race, and he finished in 16:33:01 hours. Only a battery problem and another minor mechanical difficulty kept Parks and teammates Jason Spiess, Mark Holz and Rob Utendorfer from first place. “We had a great race and led most of the time,” said Parks. “This was my first race with the new Vipr tires, and they worked really well. In Vegas to Reno, you see all types of terrain from near rock crawling to hardpack to sand to knee-deep silt. The Viprs handled all of it and were very stable at the high speeds. Awesome tire!”

Just reaching the finish line was a considerable achievement: While 15 UTV entrants started the grueling race in the 1900 class, just 5, including Parks and his teammates, were able to finish.

Other notable finishers for Maxxis included Quad Pro riders Greg Stuart and Nic Graunland who won the overall ATV contest, completing the race in 11:06:39 hours.

Maxxis congratulates Matt Parks, Greg Stuart and Nic Graunland on their victories.

Yokley Racing Heartland Challenge Side by Side Endurance Race Report

Heartland Challenge Side by Side Endurance Race - Carlisle, Iowa, August 19, 2011

The National Guard Polaris Coastal Dragonfire Yokley Racing Team finished 2nd Overall, and 1st in the Side by Side Open Class. There were 19 teams competing in the race. The team consisted of drivers William Yokley and Scott Kiger, and passenger Joe Waligora.

Summary

The Heartland Challenge is a true test of toughness for both man and machine. The Yokley Racing Team decided to enter this race feeling confident that the Polaris Ranger RZR XP900 would be up to the task. The team arrived on Friday and prepared for the 7:00 PM start. The race started in late afternoon daylight, but most of the 4-hour race was run in darkness. Good lighting was a must.

The race began with William Yokley getting a good start, and immediately starting to pull away from the pack. William drove for the first 2 hours, and opened up a lead of several minutes. The headlight package was working well, and the Polaris was running great.

Scott Kiger took over for the last 2 hour stint, and everything was good. The check point stations were telling the team that they had a lead of more than 5 minutes, and Scott maintained a steady pace, not taking any unnecessary risks in the darkness. At the finish, the team found out that another team had finished ahead on adjusted time, because they started on another row. The other team finished 6 seconds ahead. Scott was bummed because he felt that he could have easily picked the pace up.

All in all, it was a good race for the team; the Ranger RZR XP900 worked flawlessly, everyone had a great time, and they did win the Open class. The promoter did a great job putting on such an awesome event. The team left early the next morning headed to Washougal Washington for Round 6 of the 2011 WORCS race. They had only a few hours to get ready for that race. We will have a separate race report following this one.

Yokley Racing Washougal MX Park WORCS Side by Side & ATV Race Report

Washougal MX Park WORCS - Washougal, Washington, August 20-21, 2011

National Guard Polaris Coastal DragonFire Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished 1st in the Side by Side 1 Class in Round 6 of the 2011 WORCS Series, and National Guard Polaris Coastal Yokley Racing Team driver Scott Kiger finished 3rd in the same Class. National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing ATV Team rider Jarrod McClure finished 4th in the Pro ATV Class.

Summary – Side by Side Race

It was a busy weekend for the National Guard Polaris Coastal Yokley Side by Side Racing team, as they traveled straight from the Heartland Challenge in Carlisle, Iowa on Friday to the Washougal MX Park in Washington for Round 6 of the 2011 WORCS series. With little sleep, the team prepared for the race. The course includes parts of the historic Washougal Pro Motocross course with big jumps, and woods sections in the scenic Washington hills. The weather was perfect with low humidity.

The 45 minute Side by Side race began with the National Guard Polaris Ranger RZR XP900s running 4th and 5th heading into the woods sections. William Yokley overshot a turn and lost several positions, and Scott Kiger worked his way up to 2nd place after 2 laps. Scott had a brief delay on course while William had passed up to 2nd place. On the last lap, Yokley passed for the lead going into the woods, and was able to stretch it out for his first overall WORCS win of the season. Kiger finished 3rd putting both National Guard machines on the podium.

Yokley increased his season point lead with the win, and Kiger moved up to 3rd in points. It was a very good day for the team! On Monday, the team went riding in the Oregon sand dunes and had a blast. They talked to many other riders in the area, and showed them the new XP900s. It was a good end to a long weekend!

Summary – Pro ATV Race

National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing ATV Team Rider Jarrod McClure was anxious to get back racing after several weeks of summer break. The start used the pro motocross starting gate, which makes for a crowded first turn. Jarrod was 7th after one lap on the MX course and heading into the woods. The MX track was perfect with loamy soil that had been watered, but the woods sections were pretty dusty with everyone nose to tail on lap 1. Jarrod was able to move up once the riders spaced out some. He rode a strong race eventually finishing in 4th place, his best finish this year in the series. Jarrod is now 6th in season points, and his next race is on September 10 at the Unadilla GNCC in New York.

Yamaha-ACT Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications

Ag Communicators of Tomorrow Can Apply During Fall or Spring Semesters for 2011-12 Awards
CYPRESS, Calif. – August 24, 2011 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 scholarship program that provides financial assistance to members of the National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT). ACT is a national college student association with more than 350 members located on 17 college and university campuses across the country. ACT’s mission of fostering professional development is at the core of the Yamaha-ACT Scholarship Program, now in its fourth year.
The Yamaha-ACT Scholarship Program is broken out into two individual student scholarships and one chapter scholarship. All three awards are aimed at helping students attend the annual Agricultural Media Summit (AMS), which is the largest gathering of ag media professionals in the country and is the ACT students’ primary career development networking opportunity each year. The conference is hosted by the American Agricultural Editors’ Association (AAEA), the Livestock Publications Council (LPC) and the American Business Media Agri-Council – potentially future employers and colleagues of the students.
“Yamaha is proud to help these ag students, but the program is structured so that the ag community might benefit most in the long term,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV/SxS marketing manager. “Within our application process, we are incorporating some basic points on safe, responsible equipment use, and we expect the students will take these important messages into their future careers as professional communicators.”

For the 2010-11 program, the University of Florida received Yamaha’s chapter award for the third year in a row, while Janell Baum of University of Illinois and R. Bruce Sargent of University of Guelph earned the individual scholarships. The University of Florida’s award helped cover costs in bringing four students to the 2011 AMS in New Orleans this year, while the individual scholarships covered all travel and accommodations costs, plus more, for both Baum and Sargent. The 2012 AMS will be held in Albuquerque, N.M., August 4-6.

“This program has helped my agricultural communication students in two ways: It provides funding for them to attend AMS, and equally important, my students have benefitted from how I have incorporated the Yamaha/ACT program into my spring curriculum,” said Ricky Telg, Ph.D., Department of Agricultural Education and Communication and ACT chapter advisor at the University of Florida. “Without this scholarship award, my students would not have been able to attend the Agricultural Media Summit which allows them to network with professional communicators, learn new communications skills and interact with their fellow ACT students from around the country.”

“As the Ag Media Summit continues to grow, so do the opportunities for the ACT students who are in attendance,” Nessl said. “These scholarships help students, many of whom might not have otherwise been able to attend, make it to the event allowing them to participate in the professional development sessions and networking while learning more about the industry as a whole.”

Applications are judged based on merit, need and quality of submission materials by a review committee consisting of Yamaha representatives and members of the AAEA and the LPC. The 2011-2012 application process will run through the end of March and winners will be announced in late April 2012. More information and guidelines, along with the application form, can be found online at www.nactnow.org.

PACKED WEEKEND FOR HOLZ RACING

Matt Parks - Vegas to Reno
Podium finishes at BITD Vegas to Reno  and WORCS Round 6

Lynden, WA (August 22, 2011) Holz Racing competed in four classes at two events over the weekend and enjoyed one first place finish, two second place finishes and one third.

On Friday, pilot Matt Parks and copilot Mark Holz were first off the starting line in UTV Pro Class at this year’s Vegas to Reno race, part of the Best in the Desert Off Road Racing Series, billed as the longest off-road race in the United States. The Parks Racing/Holz Racing RZR 4 was in and out of the lead until mile 420 when heat and brutal terrain forced mechanical issues and slowed the pace. Despite two breaks and repairs, the team managed a second place finish. “Finishing a 553 mile race through the triple digit heat of the Nevada desert in August is an accomplishment in itself” said Parks. “The fact that we led most of the day and the team overcame some issues late in the race to get second is gratifying. We had a chance at the win, but second still feels pretty good. My Holz-built RZR 4 was super fast and was able to stay ahead of machines with 25% more engine displacement.”

Mark Holz - Washougal
After finishing Vegas to Reno, Mark Holz flew to Washougal, Washington to compete in the 6th round of the World Off-Road Racing Championship Series. After a long summer break, Holz was anxious test the Holz Racing/Motoworks/Can-Am Commander at the challenging Washougal MX Park. Mark grabbed the holeshot at the start and clocked the race’s fasted lap time of 09:18.083. He led much of the race but fell to second on the last lap. “It was an exciting race,” he said. “We exchanged the lead a few times and I was looking forward to a win, but I got hung up behind a lapper and let it go.” Mark and his Commander took second place in Side by Side Class 1, but still finished more that 3 minutes ahead of the third place UTV. He is in second place in Series Points Standings.

Next up were Pro ATV and Pro-Am ATV Classes.  Holz Racing/Motoworks/Can-Am Riders Jeremie Warnia and Josh Frederick have shared a dominant season so far, but the day would belong to Frederick. Josh made an explosive start to take the holeshot, but dropped to third early. Frederick fought back to second position and, halfway into the race took over first place and remained there through the finish. Teammate Warnia was sore from a qualifying crash, but managed to finish third. Jeremie still leads the Series Points Standings with Josh close behind. Collins Webster had a strong third place finish in Pro-Am ATV Class on his Holz Racing/Can-Am machine and leads his Class Series Points Standings.

Mark Holz, Josh Frederick, Jeremie Warnia and Collins Webster will race WORCS Round 7 at Glenn Helen MX in Devore, California on September 17. Matt Parks will Race the BITD Bluewater Desert Challenge in Parker, Arizona on October 14.

RANGER RZRs Top All Heartland Challenge Side-by Side Classes

Team Elia and Yokley Racing one-two in Overall

Minneapolis, Aug 24, 2011–Polaris RANGER RZRs continued their domination of the race track at the four-hour Heartland Challenge UTV race, in Carlisle, Iowa by taking the top spot in all three classes offered and going one-two in the overall.

Team Elia racing in the “850 Modified” class edged out “Open Modified” Class Winner, Team Coastal/Yokley Racing by six seconds for the Overall.

Team Elia went into the race with a nearly-stock RANGER RZR S 800 with the only mods being what it took to make it race ready. The conditions were perfect as it rained earlier in the week so there was almost no dust and no mud, making for good traction. Team Elia felt the key to their win was going fast through the woods, having consistently faster lap times and staying out of the pits. For the first two hours of the race, the team was patient getting through the traffic and in the third and fourth hour, they were able to find their rhythm, step up the pace and pass vehicles each lap. Through the home stretch, they kept their pace steady and came to the finish line with a 6-second lead of Team Yokley.

For Team Yokley, the race began with William Yokley getting a good start, and immediately starting to pull away from the pack. Yokley drove for the first 2 hours, and opened up a lead of several minutes. Scott Kiger took over for the last 2-hours, and everything was great. The check point stations were telling the team that they had a lead of more than 5-minutes, and Kiger maintained a steady pace, not taking any unnecessary risks in the darkness. At the finish, the team found out that Team Elia had finished ahead on adjusted time, because they started on another row. Team Yokley then traveled to Washougal, Wash. WORCS race where Yokley finished first and Kiger third.

Vegas to Reno Dominated by Polaris RANGER RZRs

Jagged X takes fifth win of the race in RANGER RZR XP 900

Minneapolis, Aug. 23, 2011– Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno race is the longest and toughest, off-road desert race in the U.S., and Polaris RANGER RZRs were out in full force. In the starting field of 14 for the 553-mile race, was the four-time defending champions, Jagged X in their No. 1919 RANGER RZR XP 900 and Polaris Regional Sales Manager, Matt Parks in his Holz Racing RANGER RZR 4 800. When the dust settled, Jagged X would have their fifth consecutive Vegas to Reno win with Parks finishing second. With only five Side-by-Sides finishing, RANGER RZRs would sweep the podium with a RANGER RZR XP 900 also finishing third.

The Jagged X team dedicated most of their summer race break preparing and fine tuning the No. 1919 RANGER RZR XP 900 race car. The XP has performed well since its debut at the Silver State 300 in April, but the team has been working on small refinements and adjustments to make this machine the best it could be. Jagged X, with much help from Chad Riccio of CR Designs, stepped up their game on the support side of things with two completely equipped chase vehicles.

All this work combined with some great drivers and co-drivers paid off when the flag dropped early Friday morning. The No. 1919 driven By Brandon Schueler with Mike West in the navigation seat took no time to take their seventh starting spot to the front of the pack. By Pit 4, they found themselves chasing the always-consistent Polaris RANGER RZR 4 of Matt Parks, watching for any chance to get out front for some fresh air. The two RANGER RZRs swapped the lead several times in the first 350 miles with both teams being plagued by minor problems. With an elapsed time of 13 hours, 27 minutes and 42 seconds the Jagged X RANGER RZR XP 900 finished 52nd overall out of 99 car and truck finishers proving just how tough Polaris off-road vehicles are. The win moves Brandon Schueler into the points lead for the 2011 BITD championship series with two races left to go.

Parks and co-driver Jason Spiess were fortunate enough to draw the first starting position and had a clean run and had a nice lead at the half way point in the race when Mark Holz and his co-driver Rob Utendorfer took over. Holz held the lead until he noticed that battery was losing voltage and at the next pit stop, they pulled the hood to get more air to the rectifier and returned to the race in second place. Holz and Jagged X swapped the lead several times and the top two cars were running nose to tail 425 miles into the race and still hadn’t been caught by the Trophy Trucks and unlimited buggies. Unfortunately, the car had a rear A-arm bolt snap which took them out of contention for the win. They patched the car together to get him to a pit with the proper parts and Holz was on his way to the finish line.

“We came into Vegas to Reno with the points lead and knew that we had to finish this 553 mile race in order to stay in the hunt for the championship,” said Parks. “We had a blast racing out front and dicing with the Jagged X guys. Without the more than three hours of down time, we might have had a shot for the win, but honestly I am super stoked to finish this race and to get second.”

Matt Parks is sponsored by Holz Racing Products, Walker Evans Wheels and Shocks, Kroyer Racing Engines, Maxxis Tires, Tire Balls, OMF, Pure Polaris Lubricants, Valley Cycle, Utendorfer Graphic Design, Desert West Off Road Race Prep, Muzzy’s.

Jagged X is sponsored by Polaris Industries, Cutting Edge Manufacturing, Vision X Lighting, BF Goodrich Tires, Wicked Built, CR Designs, Summers Brothers, Simpson, OMF, Affordable Powdercoating, Mountain States Contracting, Total Auto Pros, Walker Evans, Elka Suspension, UTV Underground

Polaris Announces Changes in Leadership Team

Organizational transitions further strengthen Company’s global growth goals

MINNEAPOLIS (August 19, 2011) — Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII) today announced several organizational changes designed to align its leadership team with the company’s long term strategic objectives. Polaris’ growth outlook is exceptionally strong, supported by the recent success and strategic expansion of its product offerings and global footprint. These moves will enhance opportunities for continued domestic and international growth, and are effective immediately.

“The transition strengthens the company as we continue to explore business opportunities around the globe, and puts our leaders in positions to further grow and develop to meet these challenges,” said Scott Wine, Polaris CEO. “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a talented team of people at Polaris. Our deep reservoir of strong leaders allows us to make changes from a position of strength, which will maximize both the potential of the company and our executive leaders.”

Creating a laser focus on international markets is a primary objective of these changes. In the newly created role of VP - EMEA, Matt Homan will lead the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) business, concentrating on the development of both organic and inorganic growth opportunities in the region. Homan began his Polaris career in 2002 as ATV marketing manager, and for the past several years he served as VP and General Manager Off-Road Vehicle business, driving that unit’s tremendous growth.

Also focusing on international growth in a revised and strategically critical role, Mike Dougherty will oversee business in all countries outside the EMEA region, with particular focus on Brazil, India, and China, as VP - Asia Pacific and Latin America. Dougherty has already made significant contributions to Polaris’ international expansion and this role is designed to allow him to accelerate growth in these important regions. Since joining the company in 1998 as international sales manager, Dougherty has held several internationally-focused positions, including his most recent as VP - Global New Market Development. Dougherty also ran the ATV business during his Polaris tenure.

Paramount to Polaris’ success is the commitment to continually develop innovative products and Dave Longren’s leadership as VP and CTO of Engineering exemplifies this commitment. Longren will now lead the entire Off-Road Vehicle business as VP - ORV and ORV Engineering. He will continue to oversee the Bobcat adjacency as well as Polaris’ growing Defense effort. Longren’s broad experience and leadership has been critical to the various roles he’s held during his Polaris career, and will be a tremendous asset to his stewardship of the entire Off-Road Vehicle business. In addition to Longren’s strong record of success at Polaris, he also excelled in general management roles with his previous employers.

Scott Swenson becomes VP - Small Vehicle business and Parts, Garments & Accessories (PG&A), including the recent GEM acquisition. The Small Vehicle business represents a critical component of Polaris’ long term strategy, centered upon growing through non-powersports adjacencies. Swenson began his Polaris career as Assistant Treasurer in 1998 and over the last five years has been instrumental in revitalizing the snowmobile business. Swenson also played an integral role in the expansion of the company’s PG&A business, which will remain under his leadership. In addition to Small Vehicles and PG&A, Swenson will play an active leadership role in commercializing related Powertrain technologies from Polaris’ Swissauto business. He will continue to lead Polaris’ retail financial services group.

Mike Jonikas becomes VP of the Snowmobile business and Sales & Corporate Marketing. Jonikas began his Polaris career in 2000 as Director of ATV Marketing & Product Management, and over the past six years played a key role in the company’s transformation to a retail business model via the successful MVP program. In his new capacity, Jonikas will accelerate the positive growth trend exhibited by the company’s legacy Snowmobile business, while continuing to lead development of a new organic business adjacency initiative.
Steve Menneto, who rose from District Sales Manager to General Manager of Victory Motorcycles between 1997 and 2009, has been promoted to VP - Motorcycles and will continue to oversee both Victory and the recently acquired Indian motorcycle business, reporting directly to Bennett Morgan, President and COO. Menneto’s strong sales background, significant contributions to Victory’s growth, and industry experience make him the ideal person to drive Polaris’ expanded, two-brand motorcycle business.

Steve Kemp, with his extensive engineering background, has been promoted to CTO of Engineering, with oversight of all product lines excluding Off-Road Vehicles. He has served as one of Polaris’ Directors of Engineering since 2009 and had 26 years of product development experience prior to joining Polaris. Kemp has been a key contributor to the teams that, during the previous two years, have repeatedly launched innovative products while simultaneously driving record quality and process improvements. He will bring that strong engineering background and history of success to this new role, working closely with Dave Longren and the Off-Road Vehicles technical team, while reporting directly to Bennett Morgan. Steve Cohoon, Director of ATV Engineering, is being promoted to General Manager, Powertrain and Senior Director, Snow Engineering. Cohoon will succeed Allan Hurd in the Powertrain role, as Hurd has declared his intent to retire. Polaris will benefit from having the skills and deep experience of both Cohoon and Hurd, who will work together closely during this gradual transition.

Polaris continues to outperform in a challenging market environment and these leadership moves are specifically designed to maintain, or even accelerate that trend.
