2012 GNCC Racing Side-by-Side Schedule Announced

Morgantown, W. Va. (December 29, 2011) - Racer Productions announces today the Side-by-Side (UTV) racing schedule for the 2012 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. The six-round UTV series kicks off Saturday, March 17 in Washington, Ga. at The General GNCC and wraps up Saturday, October 20 at the crowd favorite Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Ind.

UTVs compete for one hour on a specially designed course throughout the woods at select GNCC events during the season. UTV competition begins at 4:30 p.m., following the ATV racing program on Saturday afternoon.

"The 2012 UTV schedule is fairly similar to what we ran last season," said GNCC Trail Boss, Jeff Russell. "By adding the new West Virginia round and John Penton, the UTV schedule is evenly spread throughout the GNCC season and gives competitors time in between rounds to prepare their machines."

In addition to the two new locations for 2012, UTV racers will return to series favorites such as The General, Big Buck, Powerline Park and Ironman. As part of GNCC Racing's RacerTV package, highlights of Side-by-Side racing will air on NBC Sports in 2012. Exact air times for RacerTV 's coverage of GNCC Racing on NBC Sports will be available after the first of the year.

Matt Parks Joins Jagged-X Racing for 2012 Best in the Desert Season

Phoenix, AZ - 12/26/11 -With the 2011 Best In The Desert (BITD) season complete, Brandon Schueler and the Jagged-X desert off-road race team fell just a few points short of capturing their 5th Pro-UTV championship in as many years. Despite falling short, Brandon and the factory sponsored Polaris racing team Jagged-X, still viewed the season as a success. The team managed to win their 5th consecutive Vegas-to-Reno race, currently the longest race in North America and by far the most difficult in the BITD series. The team also managed to collect 2-1st place and 3-2nd place finishes on the season.

With UTV racing growing at such an impressive rate, Jagged-X felt that the time was right to take their race program a step further for 2012. So for the upcoming 2012 season Jagged X / Polaris Racing will add a second car to the desert program. With that being said, Jagged-X / Polaris Racing is proud to announce that the 2011 BITD Pro UTV Champion Matt Parks is now a member of the Jagged-X race team. Matt will be piloting his #1932 Polaris RZR-4 at the 2012 BITD season opener at the Parker 250 with a whole new look and we here at Jagged-X could not be more excited to have Matt Parks on the team. In 2011 Matt Parks put his Polaris RZR-4 on the podium in every BITD race he competed in, completing the season championship and compiling 2-1st place wins, 2-2nd's, and 1-3rd place finish. Combined the #1919 and #1932 Polaris UTV's compiled 5 WINS and 5-2nd place finishes! The podium was crowded with Polaris' all season long with 14 of the 18 podium finishes being held by Polaris RZR, RZR-S, RZR-4, and RZR XP900 UTV's.

Needless to say, the Jagged-X race team is dedicated to winning more championships in the Pro-UTV class and we could not be more excited to be piloting Polaris UTV's in the Best In The Desert racing series. We could not field our race program without the generous support of our many product sponsors including BFGoodrich Tires who have pledged their support again this year and we thank them for joining us in looking to the future of UTV's and UTV racing. We have also struck an agreement with Kevin Kroyer and Kroyer Racing Engines (Las Vegas, NV). Kroyer is the formidable leader in Polaris UTV power prospecting, so to bring them on board only means more speed and reliability for an already fast and reliable group of UTV's! In addition to the Kroyer power plants we will also be adding the best UTV exhausts made to the Jagged-X program for 2012, Muzzys Performance (Bend, OR)! Our good friend and talented artist Chad Riccio of CR Designs (Phoenix, AZ) will remain on board to keep our UTV's and chase vehicles "Show Quality" for every race and continue their dedicated race support. OMF Performance (Riverside,Ca) will continue on as our custom wheel builder. Tim Orchard, owner of OMF, knowledge and encouragement has been a big part of our success since day one of our racing program so we are thrilled to continue racing on OMF's fantastic race wheels this season. For 2012 Jagged-X racing will also team up with Walker Evans Racing (Riverside, CA) in outfitting our race UTV's with their industry leading shocks. Walker Evans continuing relationship with Polaris Industries promises to help us develop the best shocks for our race cars. Lube tech and Pure Polaris lubricants will continue providing all the fluids for our race program. To turn night into day the Jagged-X team will be using the high quality line of lighting products designed and developed by Vision-X Off-Road Lighting. Lastly, Joey DiGiovanni of UTVUnderground.com will remain on board to provide our sponsors, fans, and media outlets constant race coverage and pre/post race Press Releases!

Jagged-X plans to campaign 2 Polaris RZR XP's this season and we have set a goal to compete in the 2012 SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 in November. This years Baja 1000 will run to the tip of the Baja peninsula, always looking for a challenge, Jagged-X plans to conquer the "Baja Mil" and deliver Polaris their 1st of what we hope to be many UTV wins in the coveted SCORE Baja racing series. Our first race of 2012 will be at the BITD Parker 250 being held on January 6-7, 2012 in Parker, AZ.

Stay tuned to more news, updates, and race reports from Jagged-X all season long!

NEW TRAILER ANTI-THEFT DEVICE PROVIDES FOUR LAYERS OF PROTECTION

With a marked increase in the theft of ATV’s and LSV’s on trailers, the Trailer Trap is a totally new concept of stationary anti-theft device that easily provides up to four layers of protection. The Trailer Trap anchors to an existing concrete, asphalt or dirt pad, and folds down allowing the trailer or tow vehicle to pass over it. It pivots and locks upright and the trailer coupler is secured and locked to an integral trailer ball. A thick steel wrap-around shield pivots completely over the coupler and is secured in place with two restricted access stainless locks. The safety chains are padlocked to the ¼” thick eye ring for added protection. Completely immobilizing any trailer takes less than a minute and virtually eliminates thefts of opportunity.

When the Trailer Trap is installed so the end of the trailer is up against something as shown, it eliminates the thief’s ability to roll it off and steal it as well. Also available as a portable unit with a 24” square steel base for weekend and race use, the high quality, heavy duty powder coated Trailer Trap is 100% American made from laser cut steel and works with almost all types of trailers.

The Industry’s Most Capable Four-Seat RUV, and a Hunting Crew’s Best Friend

There’s little doubt: Kawasaki’s all-new Teryx4 750 4x4 is the best possible vehicle for transporting a group of outdoorsmen – and their gear – to that far-off campsite. Its size, carrying capacity, range, durability and amazing performance make the statement a no-brainer.

But with its radically curvy bodywork smothered with a coating of Realtree® APG HD® camouflage, the Teryx4 turns into something else entirely: the world’s pre-eminent hunting-oriented RUV.

It’s true: Kawasaki’s all-new 2012 Teryx4 750 4x4 Realtree APG HD has everything a hunter – and their sportsman friends – could want, especially when it comes to stealth, the unit’s Realtree camouflage accurately mimicking the look of a woodlands area. The camo treatment makes this hunting-oriented Teryx4 blend in like no other RUV in existence, allowing a hunting crew to get where it’s going without attracting attention.

Of course, being built on the Teryx4 EPS platform means the unit also includes all the EPS model’s features, including the amazing Electric Power Steering system that make both slow and fast riding such an easy, confident affair.

The Realtree-spec Teryx4 is a perfect combination of performance and ease-of-operation: Its additional seats mean you can take extra buddies along for the hunt (or transport extra help out to the work site). And with the EPS system’s light, low-effort steering, the ride there and back – on fast trails and in tighter situations – is exceptionally comfortable and easy.

Key Features
  • All-new model for 2012
  • Room for four means twice the personal payload and twice the fun. And with the rear seats mounted higher than those in front, rear-seat passengers have a better view forward – and have an easier time getting in and out
  • Perfectly balanced 749cc V-twin engine with digital fuel injection offers more power, especially in the low and mid range, exactly where a four-seat RUV needs it
  • All-new Double-X frame design offers rigidity and durability for the Teryx4’s extra weight and higher carrying capacity
  • All-new bodywork package offers good looks and extreme durability for the long haul, with scratch-resistant material used throughout
  • Sport-focused suspension front and rear offers an ideal compromise between sporty control and superb ride comfort
  • Roomy interior lets driver and passengers stretch out, while ample cargo space means you can take along plenty of supplies and gear
  • Short wheelbase versus the competition allows a short 16.7-foot turning radius (handy in tight situations) and the ability to climb over obstacles that would ground longer and lower vehicles
  • Superb off-road ability, including high-grade Maxxis Bighorn 26-inch tires on 12-inch rims, 10.8 inches of ground clearance, a 17-degree break-over angle, and 23.6-inch water fording depth
  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) and category-first centrifugal clutch offer sporty performance and the slow-speed throttle precision needed in tricky or slow-speed conditions
  • Electronic three-mode 4WD is controlled by a handy cockpit switch and allows instantaneous changes from 2WD to 4WD and 4WD with differential lock for maximum traction situations
  • Dual 200mm front discs and a sealed multi-plate rear brake system help provide stopping power
  • Convenience features include standard colored doors, auto-style parking brake, roomy cargo area with four tie-down loops, full instrumentation, hand-holds, two-tone seats, over fenders for mud protection, opening front hood for easy maintenance and much more
  • Multi-function instrumentation offers the driver a host of important information, including speed, hour meter, fuel level and much more

BRP Announces 2012 Can-AM ATV and Side-by-Side Vehicle Racing Contingency Program

Industry-Leading $1.79 Million Program Has Increased Series and Class Coverage for 2012
Valcourt, Québec, December 22, 2011 – BRP will provide nearly US $1.8 million to support its industry-leading Can-Am® ATV and Side-By-Side Racing Contingency Program for the 2012 racing season. BRP has added more regional racing series as well as improved the contingency program for select Can-Am ATV and all Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicle racers for 2012. Racers who compete on Can-Am ATVs and side-by-side vehicles in both Canada and the United States are eligible for a cash payout through the program for the upcoming racing season.
“We remain dedicated in our support of both professional and amateur Can-Am ATV and side-by-side vehicle racers,” said Denis Morin, vice-president, Product Development & Racing at BRP. “Our class-leading contingency program is essential for rewarding those racers who choose to compete on our products and be part of the Can-Am family. Racing is deeply rooted in our heritage and serves as an integral resource for furthering product development and innovation.”
Participating racers who compete in an approved racing series aboard the Can-Am DS 450, Can-Am Outlander or Can-Am Renegade lines of ATVs and the Can-Am Commander line of side-by-side vehicles can be eligible for the cash payout. Racers, who meet the terms of the contingency program, will be awarded cash payouts in the amount earned based on a racer’s overall finish at a qualifying event and be mailed directly to the participant or the legal guardian. Additional contingency will also be awarded to racers who secure a class championship at the end of the season.
For 2012, the revised Can-Am 4x4 Contingency Program includes more models and rebates for eligible participants. The program starts immediately and includes all new or unused 2010, 2011 and 2012 Can-Am Outlander and Renegade ATVs, and all 2011 and 2012 new or unused Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicles. Benefits of the program include a $1000 factory discount on all eligible ATV models and a $1500 factory discount on all eligible side-by-sides. Racers can qualify for model rebates by purchasing a qualifying ATV or SxS, register with an authorized Can-Am dealer and then compete in their local series or a nationally recognized racing circuit. However, the number of vehicles eligible for the program is limited and once BRP reaches that number, the program will end.
Amateur racers who compete aboard the Can-Am DS 450 EFI ATV will also continue to have unprecedented access to factory racing support with the new Can-Am X-Team DS 450 Racer Support Program and more racing series to choose from in 2012. Once the amateur racer applies with any authorized Can-Am dealer and is approved, he or she can receive factory support no matter the race series and no matter the class.
All approved Can-Am X-Team DS 450 racers will receive a one-year Can-Am X-Team membership card and a unique racer ID, which also grants them access to a $2,000 racer discount on any new or unused DS 450. Can-Am X-Team racing members will also receive a FREE Can-Am X-Team / Motoworks Stage 1 Racing Kit (up to a $1,000 value). This factory-developed racing kit includes a racing Engine Control Module, Motoworks SR4 aluminum slip-on silencer and other race-proven items. The Stage 1 Racing Kit increases the DS 450 ATV’s crank horsepower to 50 hp – an improvement of 11 percent over stock – and improves low-end torque.
Approved racers will also be issued a $1,000 Can-Am X-Team parts, accessories and clothing account with BRP. Specific performance parts will also be discounted up to 75 percent off MSRP for approved racers. Race-tested and approved parts include, FOX Racing Shox, 50-inch widening kits or other performance packages for specific racing applications (aside from the X mx and X xc DS 450 models).
Contingency cash is paid out in all major U.S. national racing series, including the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series, AMA ATV Motocross series, World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS), High Lifter Mud Nationals as well as numerous local off-road racing series. The list of qualified racing series has expanded for 2012 to include even more racing circuits, from desert events to hare scrambles to endurance events in the U.S. and Canada.

DRAGONFIRE COMES OUT WITH CAMO & SFI-APPROVED HARNESSES

DragonFire Belts The Competition Crowd & Recreational Rider Alike
Mesa, AZ — December 20, 2011 — Already well established as the leader in the UTV safety belt field with a full array of colorful 4-point harnesses, DragonFire continues to up the ante. Their latest offerings include a camouflage-pattern belt perfect for DragonFire’s LockDown safety restraint system for hunters and recreational users and a new SFI-approved racing restraint system for the competition crowd.

The SFI foundation is a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for racing equipment. Many racing organizations, including the WORCS series and SCORE, require SFI-certified belts for UTVs to race in their series. “We are proud of the fact our competition restraint systems meet or exceed the demanding SFI standards,” says DragonFire General Manager Scott Highland. “The same R&D and testing that goes into the development of our full-race systems is also engineered into the restraints we make for the recreational user.”

That is where the new camo color scheme comes in. “Recreational users demand the same level of safety as pro racers, so we have incorporated all the top of the line features,” explains Highland. The camouflage belts follow up on DFR’s recent introduction of the "LockDown" harness bar kits for the late model Can-Am Commander, Kawasaki Teryx and Polaris Ranger.

“Even our basic belts are better than the OEM baseline models,” notes Highland. “Our standard belt is 3-inches wide to disperse any impact better while DragonFire’s 4-point restraints keep you firmly in place. All of our belts are engineered to run around the headrest in order to stay firmly on your shoulders, secured by our unique sternum strap.” Top quality mounting buckles and plush padding complete the package. Beyond the basic black, the 4-point harnesses currently come in red, white, black and blue… while a bright yellow to match the Can-Am Commanders is also in the works. The H-style harness/sternum strap in camo comes in at a suggested retail price of just $139.99.

The expanded range of restraints are just part of a host of innovative new products coming from DragonFire for the 2012 season, says Highland. “Our new HiBoy & LowBoy doors, RacePace cages and bumpers, LED lightbars and FireBreather kits are just some of the hot offerings we have for the coming season.” Click on www.dragonfireracing.com or visit DragonFire on Facebook to Feel The Heat!

Polaris Introduces Another Extreme-Performing Side-by-Side to the RANGER RZR Family

New RANGER RZR XP 4 900 Offers Razor Sharp Xtreme Performance for Four
This past January, Polaris introduced a whole new class of side-by-side with the RZR XP 900. Building off of the launch, Polaris is introducing another extreme performance side-by-side to the family, the RZR XP 4 900. This launch will bring Xtreme performance for four while delivering the ultimate combination of power, suspension and agility found in the entire RZR family.

The RZR XP 4 900 is the most-capable, highest-powered, multi-passenger side-by-side with the longest wheelbase making it the ultimate performance vehicle in the market place. The vehicle has many of the same attributes as the RZR XP 900; the proven 88 horsepower, ProStar™ 900 Twin engine, 3-Link Trailing Arm Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) with 12.5 in/31.8 cm of ground clearance and 14 in/35.6 cm of travel, On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive and low center of gravity for unmatched cornering; with a class-leading 107 in/271.8 cm of wheelbase to not only accommodate two more passengers, but also provide the smoothest ride available on a high-performance side-by-side.

“Polaris continues to innovate the RANGER RZR line by developing highly sought-after vehicles that offer the ultimate combination of power, suspension and agility,” said Dave Longren, vice president and general manager of Polaris’ Off-Road Vehicles Division. “With the instant success of the RZR XP 900 and the popularity of multi-passenger vehicles throughout the industry, it was a natural progression to develop an extreme-performing vehicle that four can enjoy.”

The ultimate combination of power, suspension and agility starts with power. At the heart of the RZR XP 4 900 is the 88 horsepower ProStar™ 900 Twin EFI engine that was built specifically for an extreme-performance side-by-side and first found in the RZR XP 900. The engine features Dual OverHead Cams (DOHC), four big valves per cylinder and dual throttle bodies located close to the intake valves for fast throttle response and groundbreaking acceleration.

In order to handle the massive power of the engine and keep the ride smooth, the RZR XP 4 900 features a 3-Link Trailing Arm IRS. The 3-link design consists of two extra-long radius rods and a far forward-connecting trailing arm resulting in a strong, yet lightweight system. And, for the first time on a Side-by-Side, the RZR XP 4 900 will offer Premium, 2.5 in/6.4 cm body, Walker Evans rear shocks, the largest stock shocks on the market. The massive 2.5-inch body shocks are designed to deliver higher damping forces and avoid shock fade compared to a 2-inch body shock thanks to a 35 percent larger piston area that reduces internal pressure and heat generation. The shock also contains 35 percent more oil volume to slow the rate of heat buildup when pounding through the roughest terrain.

Coupling the Walker Evans shocks with RZR XP 4 900’s long wheel base makes for the smoothest ride from a high-performance side-by-side. Its 14 in/35.6 cm of terrain-absorbing rear travel and 13.5 in/34.3 cm of front travel soak up the rough stuff and deliver a smooth, precise ride, while 12.5 in/31.8 cm of ground clearance gives the machine the ability to tackle any obstacle in its way.

For razor-sharp agility, RZR XP 4 900 features a low center of gravity for the ultimate ride over rough terrain. The engine-behind-the-seat design and strategically-placed key components optimize vehicle weight distribution delivering extreme, razor-sharp agility and performance, while the race-inspired rear suspension maximizes traction and power in the corners. To provide precise cornering, the suspension’s radius rods extend deep into the wheel hubs and feature an uneven link geometry that optimizes camber. This allows the tires to lean into the corner through the suspension travel, and plant more tire surface on the ground for maximum control. For added agility, Polaris will have a limited edition RZR XP 4 900 with electronic power steering for added control and less rider fatigue in the rough stuff.

Similar to the front passengers, rear passengers also have a 12-volt plug in and two cup holders. All four bucket seats are interchangeable and offer 4 in/10.2 cm of front-to-rear adjustability making it easy to switch drivers. Citizens Group Recommends Increased Public Involvement In BLM Fee Development

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) California Desert District Advisory Council (DAC) met on Saturday December 3, 2011 in Redondo Beach, CA. The DAC is a citizen’s advisory council, appointed by the US Secretary of Interior that provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on the management of 11 million acres (17 thousand square miles) of public lands in eight counties of Southern California.

Last year, the BLM tasked the DAC with a review of recreation fee policies. The DAC took this review on at their December 3, 2011 meeting and have made several recommendations to the BLM that affect implementation of user fees at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) and Dumont Dunes.
The DAC recommendations encourage the BLM to develop a "Standard Report Format" that provides the public with information relating to fee revenue collected and how this revenue is used. A yearly budget was specifically requested.

In addition the DAC requested that BLM investigate the implementation of a second vehicle permit for the Dumont Dunes and the ISDRA. It was suggested that this program be available for the 2012-13 recreation season.

And most important of all, the DAC asked the BLM to reduce the cost of fee collection before any additional fee increase is proposed. This is particularly important since the cost of collection currently approaches 40% of the revenue collected at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.

American Sand Association (ASA) President, Bob Mason said "this is a major step forward in providing the dune visitors a greater voice in the determination of recreation fees." Mason further noted that "these recommendations are clearly supported by the intent and spirit of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act adopted by Congress in 2004." Mason continued by asking "Sand Sport" enthusiasts to contact BLM Management to encourage them to seriously consider implementing these DAC recommendations.

Send your support of the DAC recommendations to Margaret Goodro, BLM El Centro Office Field Manager at 1661 S 4th Ave, El Centro, CA, 92243 or mgoodro@blm.gov

Full DAC recommendations to the BLM made be downloaded at: http://www.americansandassociation.org/access_files.php?dir_all=/BLM_Documents/DAC%20Fee%20recommendations%2012_3_2011&dir_member=

MasterCraft Safety and Impact Have All Your Safety Needs Covered This Winter

Unrivaled in the realm of motorsports protection, it would be easy enough for MasterCraft Safety and Impact by MasterCraft Safety to rest on their laurels. Instead, both companies constantly forge ahead and innovate in an effort to provide the best possible products from head to toe, with MasterCraft’s legendary energy-attenuating seats and occupant restraints, and Impact’s industry-leading helmets, driving suits, and apparel. Continuous innovation on the part of MasterCraft and Impact provides cutting-edge safety solutions unrivaled in the industry.

The only product that MasterCraft Safety does not manufacture and is required by most of the racing sanctions is a head and neck restraint (HANS ®) device. Well, MasterCraft thought of that too. They are now an official HANS ® dealer, providing you true one-stop shopping for all of your safety needs. The HANS ® system has reduced the risk of basilar skull fractures caused by rapid deceleration by an astonishing 80 percent*. Impact’s complete line of American-made helmets and both Impact and MasterCraft’s restraints are available with HANS ® compatible 2-inch shoulder harnesses, allowing the device to sit more comfortably on the shoulders and providing the ultimate in safety.

* Based on testing performed by HANS ® inventor Dr. Robert Hubbard at General Motors' Auto Safety Test laboratories.

MasterCraft Safety's New Quick Safety Release

MasterCraft Safety’s and Impact’s new Quick Safety Release (QSR) adjusters makes the industry’s best restraints even better. Does your race or play vehicle need to accommodate different drivers and co-drivers? Restraint adjustments are now easier than ever thanks to the QSR, even with gloves on! Available in configurations from five-point to seven-point harnesses from both MasterCraft Safety and Impact, the QSR is just another example of how both companies continue to raise the bar.

Z+ Axis Sled Test Chart

Racers are not the only ones benefiting from MasterCraft Safety’s innovation. The defense division of MasterCraft has performed unprecedented laboratory and live fire testing on the energy abatement associated with the seats used in armored military vehicles such as the MRAP, LSAC, and LTAS. MasterCraft’s 350G +Z axis (nominal) impact sled testing resulted in a Dynamic Response Index (DRI) of 13.7. Previous blast testing to the NATO STANAG Level 2A standard indicated an 84% reduction of energy in a 55G live fire event. What does this mean to civilians? The same technology used to develop MasterCraft Safety’s defense line of seating is integrated into the full line of commercially available products available to the public. Click on the image above to view videos of MasterCraft's testing procedures.

With Christmas around the corner, now is the time to load up on the best safety gear for next season or that last minute gift. These qualities and craftsmanship make MasterCraft seats the leading choice for environments where safety can mean the difference between life and death, from desert racing to hostile territory overseas. For more information please visit www.impactraceproducts.com.

About HANS ®:

The HANS ® Device is a revolutionary SFI-approved safety product that is considered mandatory safety equipment by over 40 sanctioning bodies, including NASCAR. It greatly reduces the likelihood of head or neck injuries, such as a basilar skull fracture, in the event of a crash. The purpose of the device is to stop the head from "whipping forward" in a crash, without otherwise restricting movement of the neck. In a crash, an unprotected body is decelerated by the seatbelt with the head maintaining velocity until it is decelerated by the neck. The HANS ® device maintains the relative position of the head to the body, with the device transferring energy to the much stronger chest, torso, shoulder, seatbelts and seat as the head is decelerated.

Finishing Strong
After another great season, George ended the year on a high note by polishing off his fourth win of the season at Firebird Raceway. In the main event, George started at the back of the field and had not made much progress by the halfway point. With two laps remaining, George would make the pass for the lead and hold on to win in the final main event of the season.

Down to the Wire
Coming into the final round, VanBeekum was looking to cap off the season at the front of the field and finish strong in the overall standings. VanBeekum took a hold of the competition by laying down the fastest lap time in qualifying. In the main event, he continued to perform at the top of the field, maintaining a strong lead throughout the majority of the race. VanBeekum would finish second on the day and runner-up in the championship.

Boundary Posts Installed at Dumont Dunes to help keep OHVs out of Wilderness Area

While visitors to the Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area were having fun and enjoying their time together over the past few weekends they may have noticed another group of individuals working along the old historic Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad. The group of young people was helping to protect the Kingston Range Wilderness. The Student Conservation Association’s (SCA) WildCorp crew is helping the BLM's Barstow Field Office and the off-highway vehicle community by installing a post and cable fence where the open riding area comes in contact with the wilderness boundary.

Members of the WildCorps youth crew help install posts along the Kingston Range Wilderness.
The five-person SCA WildCorps crew started training in September before hitting the field at the Carrizo Plain National Monument and now is currently working within the Kingston Range Wilderness. Crew members enjoy the beauty of the dunes, the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day and the physical and mental challenge of pounding posts all day. “Nothing could make the work easier than having the gorgeous sand dunes on one side and the stunning Kingston Mountain range on the other” said crew member Caitlin Bowman.

WildCorp members started their hitch in Barstow with an overview of BLM history by Greg Hill, the California Desert District Wilderness Coordinator. Park Rangers Art Basulto and Ron Salazar later presented programs on desert wildlife and dunes safety. All of these presentations help the WildCorp crew connect to the area they are working in.

WildCorp project leader Natalie Wilson said that it was honor to be working with such dedicated and hardworking crew members and that she appreciated the support the Barstow Field Office staff was providing. WildCorp will be in the Kingston Wilderness for the next few weeks with additional conservation work planned throughout the California Desert District in the next six months.

Weller Wins LOORRS SR1 Championship

Corry Weller clinched the LOORRS SR1 UTV title at the season’s final race, held December 10 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Weller is the first woman ever to win a LOORRS championship. She finished the race at Round 15 despite a mishap which damaged her vehicle’s front end, garnering enough points to take home the championship. The race capped a triumphant season that saw titles for both Weller and her husband, Jason, who previously won the 2011 Arizona Lucas Oil Regional Series championship in the same machine.

She trusted Maxxis’ Ceros UTV tires to take her to the winner’s circle throughout 2011. “Tire choice is huge in this type of racing, and the Ceros got us to the front over and over again,” said Weller.

In an incredible season, Weller stood atop the podium twice in the highly competitive SR1 UTV class. She took second six times and finished third at three rounds.

Maxxis congratulates Corry on her championship and on a great season of racing.

VORRA ANNOUNCES REVISED RACE SCHEDULE FOR 2012 AND WILL REQUIRE HEAD & NECK RESTRAINTS STARTING 2013

December 15, 2011, Sparks, NV. -- Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) today announced a revised race schedule, following input and voting at the Association's December 10 membership meeting.
The signature USA 500 desert race moved back to July, and members voted to continue with two double-header short course weekends at Prairie City following the success of this year’s season finale. VORRA also announced, following a vote by the membership, that head and neck restraint systems will be mandatory for all race classes in 2013.

“We’d initially moved the USA 500 to earlier in the year, but following discussions with our casino partners and the Bureau of Land Management, the original July race date worked out best for everyone,” said VORRA Race Director Wes Harbor. “We’ll be making more announcements on the 500 in the coming months, but racers can put it on their 2012 calendars for July 13-15.”

Teams attending VORRA’s annual rules meeting and awards banquet in South Lake Tahoe also endorsed proposals to consolidate short course racing into two double headers in April and October and to shift the date of the night race to later in September to free up Labor Day weekend for teams to spend with their families.

“Our first short course double-header earlier this year at Prairie City was a big hit with racers and fans,” Harbor said. “It’s also a recognition that everyone’s racing on tight budgets and consolidating the short course weekends reduces the amount of vacation time and fuel costs teams factor in to their racing seasons.”

The new VORRA 2012 race schedule is as follows:
  • April 13-15 Short Course Double Header Prairie City, CA
  • May 26-28 Yerington 300 Desert Race Yerington, NV
  • July 13-15 USA 500 Desert Race Reno/Sparks, NV
  • September 8-9 Night Vision 250 Desert Race Fallon, NV
  • October 26-28 Short Course Double Header Prairie City, CA
Following a lengthy debate on the inherent dangers of off road racing and their desire for personal choice in using different types of safety gear, VORRA racers voted by a large margin to mandate head and neck restraint systems beginning in 2013. The requirement will be for SFI 38.1 certified systems.

“After multiple severe back injuries in 2011, we had to reduce the chance of injury whenever possible,” Harbor said. “Commonly known as HANS devices, many professional racing organizations worldwide require them in the wake of well documented deceleration injuries and deaths. It’s only a matter of time until they became mandatory in the off-road racing world. We also recognize the expense of investing in this type of safety equipment and elected to extend the deadline for them to 2013 to give teams time to transition.”
VORRA has begun contacting equipment distributors to negotiate discounts for racers in advance of 2013. One retailer has already agreed to offer a rebate program to VORRA, and VORRA has pledged $25 donations to Fast-Aid for every 2012 purchase from that retailer.

“I’m also going to offer entry fee discounts to racers who purchase any approved device in 2012,” Harbor said, “Our focus on fun, competitive and safe racing will live on.”

About VORRA
Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) was established in 1975 and has operated as a family-oriented organization for over three decades. It is currently led by Wes Harbor who believes that “off road racing has its roots in people’s garages” and continues to keep the entry fees to a minimum while maintaining a high quality racing experience. Yamaha Sponsors HAVA’s 4th Annual National Family Day

San Antonio, TX – Honored American Veterans Afield hosted 150 disabled veterans and wounded active duty personnel and their families (over 250 attendees) at HAVA's 4th Annual National Family Day at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday November 12, 2011. The day of shooting, entertainment, food, raffles and fellowship also featured exhibitions by USA Shooting Team members Mark Weeks and Haley Dunn. The event offered a unique 10 stage 3-gun competition format while still keeping fun and safety at the forefront. Tremendous industry volunteerism made this possible.

Numerous shooting sports companies contributed prizes for the adult raffle which awarded over $10,000 in prizes and hunts to these deserving American heroes including firearms from Smith & Wesson, Mossberg, Glock and Sig Sauer. XS Sight Systems hosted an air soft course of "fire" and a Kids Raffle which awarded prizes to all of the youth attendees. Local VFW District 20 served lunch and dinner for the attendees and 200 local middle-school children created personal thank-you notes to the troops for their dedicated service. Since 2008, HAVA's National Family Day has served over 600 Wounded Warriors and family members and has become the shooting sports industry's finest expression of its appreciation of those who serve so valiantly.

"It is our privilege to represent the industry in thanking those disabled veterans and wounded active duty heroes and their families who have given their full measure of commitment to defend America's freedom," said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. "National Family Day has grown into a major event for the wounded warrior families from Brook Army Medical Center, numerous transition house facilities and Fort Hood; and our attendance has tripled since the initial event despite numerous other Veterans Day and Marine Birthday festivities. Our focus on support for the entire family is unique and the sacrifice of spouses and kids is applauded. We believe that getting the disabled and wounded out on a hunt or to a shooting event is sound therapy for those who are trying to rebuild their lives and reinforce confidence in the future despite personal challenges. Several dozen shooting sports companies have joined this effort and we solicit support from all interested companies and volunteers."

Mad Media & Best in The Desert to Produce the Greatest Off-Road Race in the World – The Legendary Mint 400

The world-renowned General Tire Mint 400 was recently acquired by The Martelli Brothers – partners in the nationally recognized marketing/production group Mad Media - who have since formed a multi-year partnership with Casey Folks of Best in the Desert to manage the event. The Mint will now be part of The Best in the Desert American Off-Road Racing Series, but will remain open to privateers. Hundreds of race teams will compete in twenty different classes of race vehicles at next year's Mint 400, which will take place the weekend of March 23rd – 25th 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Martelli Brothers and Folks have already begun to improve the event by reinstating popular features from The Mint's glory days (late 1970’s) – and by adding new components to make it even more exciting for spectators and race teams. Casey has designed a new (brutal) 400-mile course located in Jean, Nevada, that will feature a high-speed passing zone near a dedicated spectator area, as well as rocky washes, silt beds, high-speed graded roads, rock gardens, and the giant rolling jumps The Mint is famous for. Additionally, racers will start side-by-side (two at a time), making “turn one” a new exciting spectacle of the race. Prize purses will increase, including the addition of Oakley “Bomb Awards” for the fastest lap. And each driver of record will also receive a complimentary gift bag with sponsor gifts.
Contingency will be held once again on historic Fremont Street
“We’ve expanded the reach of The Mint for 2012 dramatically by increasing the coverage with our TV partner FUEL TV and by partnering with Race-Dezert.com for live tracking and web coverage during the race,” said Joshua Martelli. “We’ve also just pulled the trigger on a new Mint 400 social media package that includes Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. We will be producing a ton of new video content prior to and during the race – and distributing it through these channels to all of our fans. We’re going to elevate The Mint 400 back to being the most important motorsports event in the world, one year at a time.”
“Since 1968, The Mint 400 has held the title of the toughest, most spectacular off-road race in North America. Our goal is to build on that tradition. Between our expanded media coverage, extended entry list, partnership with Casey Folks of Best in the Desert, and help from the city of Las Vegas, we’re on the way to making The Mint 400 the most remarkable motorsports event in the world. We have also extended an offer to other series to participate, including but not limited to Sal Fish of SCORE International. Next year will be an epic battle between the best off-road racers on the planet, in over twenty different classes of race vehicles…all taking place in Las Vegas! You don’t want to miss that!” said Matt Martelli.
The Mint 400 will be action packed!
For Casey Folks, working with The Martelli Brothers on The Mint 400 is a welcome addition to his BITD schedule, “My first Mint 400 race was in 1972 on a motorcycle – and I’ve been in love with it ever since! I won my bike class in 1973 and 1974. Then in 1976 I was given the opportunity by the Mint Hotel to work with my good friend Walt Lott on promoting the race – which was my very first as a professional promoter. I’m a proud Las Vegas native, and I have always wanted to have this race be a part of Best in the Desert. Now that it is, it’s time we remind the world what desert racing is all about!”
The Mint 400’s title sponsor, General Tire, swept the podium in 2011 – and they are returning in 2012 as the title sponsor of the race. “We are extremely excited to continue our support of the legendary Mint 400. We want to help expand this race into an international phenomenon so that the whole world can see how technical and exciting desert racing is. We have a multi-year commitment with Mad Media and Casey Folks, and are very excited that The Mint is now part of the Best in the Desert series,” stated Dana Zamalloa of General Tire.
The Mint 400 race will take place Saturday March 24th in Jean, Nevada – just outside the City of Las Vegas, but there will be an entire week of events leading up to it. Several of the sponsors are planning hosted parties and autograph signings, the annual contingency parade on Fremont Street in Las Vegas will continue, and of course, the famous Miss Mint 400 pageant contest will be held again in 2012!
Best In The Desert Racing Association

RJ Anderson and his RANGER RZR XP 900 Take LOORRS UTV Championship

Minneapolis, Dec. 14, 2011–The RANGER RZR family added its fourth UTV championship of the year to its impressive racing resume with RJ Anderson and his Walker Evans RZR XP 900 taking their first Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) UTV Unlimited Championship.

Anderson clinched the championship in the final rounds of racing at LOORRS finale in Chandler, AZ. After a few years of falling just short of the championships, Anderson credits the new RZR XP 900 and his sponsors for putting him on top.

The Polaris RZR XP900 is the best UTV on the market in stock form, combine that with our Walker Evans Racing team and products and now we have the Championship we have wanted for so long. I give a lot of the credit to Kevin Kroyer. We wouldn't be where we are if it wasn't for Kevin Kroyer and his Kroyer Race Engines that he built for our Polaris UTV. He squeezed every bit of power he could out of these engines keeping us in front and ensuring that we always started and finished races. This was our last year racing UTV's at Lucas Oil so it was important to go out and win the championship, and that’s what the team did and because of that I just couldn't be more pumped than I am right now. I want to also thank each and every member of our team and every sponsor that has helped us along. South Point Casino is a huge part of our program in all classes and their support gets us here every round. Holz Racing Products for building and giving me one of the sweetest handling UTV's ever built. Goodyear Tires for giving us the grip we need, Mastercraft Safety for keeping me safe especially in my big wreck during the opening rounds of racing at Firebird this season. Of course I need to thank Walker Evans Racing, they along with my Mom and Dad have provided me with this opportunity to go race and do what I love and for that I owe them more than words could ever describe. Muzzys, K&N Filters, Dethrone Racing, Oakley, Utendorfer Design, UTVUnderground.com, Summers Brothers, and of course Polaris Industries, thank you to all of you for all of the parts, support, and encouragement all season long!” said RJ Anderson.
