HOLZ RACING AT THE MINT 400

Lynden, Washington (March 29, 2012) - The Holz Racing/Coastal Racing desert car (Polaris RZR XP) lined up in the 14th starting position in 1900 Class. After finishing 3rd at the Parker 250, we were optimistic about winning the Mint. The 1934 car was very fast in testing the previous week, so anticipation was high.
Scott Kiger and Mark Holz made a good start and began passing early. The car was fast and they avoided damage. By mile 65 they were leading the Class and eased into a pace as comfortable as the rough conditions would allow. Scott and Mark continued to make time and finished the first lap in 02:08:31.035, a full seven minutes faster than the car running in 2nd place.

Early in the 2nd lap the course conditions took their toll on the car. They bent a trailing arm and limped to Pit 1 for repair. Then 45 miles later, a hazard broke an a-arm and stole their hopes for a win.

The performance of 1934 was even better than we had hoped. We’ve got a little more than a month to work on some durability issues and look forward to winning at the Silver State 300!

Mint 400 Race Recap from Cook Racing

Escalon CA -  Well lets just start from the beginning a little over 2 weeks ago Cook Racing took possession of our new 2012 Polaris RZR Xp4 900 from Polaris Industries, the next day the car went to see Thad at Fiberwerx for a race cage and aluminum work. Exactly one week later the car came back to us and within 4 days my crew chief Jeff Correia and I transformed the vehicle into a full fledged race car. We loaded up the car and we were off to the races last Thursday, but first we made a stop to see Justin and his crew at Cognito Motorsports they worked their magic and in no time had a new Cognito suspension with Fox shocks installed and ready to race. Next stop Vegas…

On Friday we unloaded the car and began our journey down Fremont Street better known as tech and registration. We spent the better part of Friday slowly rolling up through tech. We had the chance to meet with many new sponsors who took an interest in our program.

Saturday morning came very early, 3am. We headed out to the track and prepared for the start of the race at 0600. When the time finally arrived we staged the mighty RZR and before we knew it the light was green and we were off. My co-driver Curtis (5150) Dahmen and I began our adventure into the unknown, the race began with heavy doses of dust so much so that it turned daylight into darkness, as we moved forward we encountered heavy carnage from stuck vehicles to vehicles flipped over to ones that were burnt to the ground. As we settled into our race program which took about 15 miles we realized the true potential of the RZR 900, this car is so fast and maneuverable that we were able to move up through the pack with relative ease. As quickly as we started to move up we encountered our first of 4 flat tires. In our haste to get the car ready for the race we neglected to put a little more thought into our jack situation, let’s just say it was not working out as planned; we spent nearly 10 minutes on each flat. This amount of down time was equal to the amount of time we lost the race by.

We brought the RZR in after lap one for our scheduled pit stop, the Cognito crew once again jumped into action and completed our service and sent us back into battle, shortly after leaving the pits (about 2 miles) we encountered our 3rd flat. While we were down fixing this one our teammate Dennis Jean slipped by us. Curtis completed the tire change and it was on, in all my years of racing I have strived to compete with Dennis but he was always the faster, well that was not to be today. I drove the wheels off to catch back up and then it happened up ahead in the dust I saw the blue light of Dennis, we worked hard to keep up in the dust and stay on his tail, finally a hand emerged from the window letting me know he knew I was there, we backed off and gave him the time and room needed to allow him to move over which he did. The pass was clean and fast and we were off, the RZR accelerated at a blinding speed and we were heading into check point 2. About 10 miles from the check point we suffered another flat and a broken axle; we changed the tire and decided to limp the wounded RZR into the pit. Funny thing is that before we knew it we were running at 65 mph with a broken axle, amazing. We entered pit 2 and from the advice of the Cognito crew we decided to continue on to the finish. Our speed was good but trying to control a vehicle with a broken axle proved to be quite a challenge, the car kept trying to veer left this was not a good thing. About 5 miles from the finish line our teammate Justin Lambert (Cognito Motorsports) made a clean pass on us in his Kawasaki Teryx. Soon there after we completed the race. Upon entering the finish line area we realized to our amazement that we had pulled off a 5th place finish. As I always tell my team in order to finish first we must first finish…..

I would like to thank all my sponsors, Cognito Motorsports, Polaris Industries, Rigid Industries, Fox Shocks, Maxxis Tires, Muzzy Exhausts, Optima Batteries, Torco Motor Oils, Griffin Radiators, Grant Steering Wheels, NOS Energy Drinks, Black Rhino Performance, OMF Wheels, Rugged Radios, Cal Hot Coatings, Fiberwerx, Gunk, 4 Wheel Parts, and Zamped Helmets. Next stop Plaster City for the HDRA race April 5, 2012.

UTV Race Report From The Legendary Mint 400 Desert Race

1917 Can-Am Commander driven by Jason and Derek Murray
1917 Can-Am Commander driven by Jason and Derek Murray Takes Home the Win at The Mint 400

The Mint 400 aka The Great American Off-Road Race is steeped in history for the thousands of racers  from around the world who have attempted to tame the Nevada desert near Las Vegas. Fans got the chance to see vehicles up close in front of the Fremont Street casinos during the technical inspection and contingency before the vehicles headed off to Jean for the races on Jean Dry Lake Bed on Saturday.

The Mint 400 ran until 1988 and resumed in 2008 after the 20-year break. Mad Media took over the rights to The Mint 400 race and brought it to a new level. And with thirty UTVs in the mix for the first time ever, it was a huge boost for UTV desert racing.

The Mint 400 race took place Saturday March 24th , 2012 in Jean, Nevada but there were several days of events leading up to it. There were hosted parties by several of the race sponsors, autograph signings, the tech & contingency parade on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, and of course, the famous Miss Mint 400 pageant contest!

UTVs were off the line by about 6:30 and had two 95 mile loops in front of them. The course just outside of Jean, Nevada has huge trophy truck whoops, deep silt beds and rocky desert that took its’ toll on about half the field.

It was a great day for Can-Am as Commander 1000‘s took home the top two spots on the podium. And it was great to see four different manufacturers in the top six Pro UTV finishers (Can-Am, Polaris, Kawasaki and John Deere).

Finish Order (Overall listed in order of corrected time finish):
  1. 1st Pro UTV – #1917 Jason and Derek Murray – Can-Am Commander
  2. 2nd Pro UTV – #1904 Cory Sappington – Can-Am Commander

  15. 11th Pro – #1944 Todd Stephensen – Arctic Cat Wildcat
  16. 12th Pro – #1943 Gabe Geurin – Polaris RZR XP 4
From some reports, The Mint 400 was one of the roughest courses many racers have experienced.  The course definitely took its toll on the vehicles.  I have heard of a fire destroying 1905. Another with a blown engine. One with three flats and a broken axle. Another with a blown clutch that could not be fixed in the field. One that got hit by a buggy which knocked them out of the race because it tore a corner off the UTV. A second got hit hard by a truck and ended their day. Another lost the front suspension off one side after hitting a rock or something.  And one suffered a blown head gasket before the race even started.

BLACK RHINO ANNOUNCES THE COMPANY’S NEWEST RELATIONSHIP WITH HIGH DESERT RACING ASSOCIATION

Black Rhino Performance
El Cajon, CA – Kenny Osborn, owner of Black Rhino, and Roger Norman of HDRA have been working behind the scenes to promote the UTV Class in the HDRA Series. Black Rhino will not only promote the class but will also help UTV racers logistically with transportation, pit support and other needs.

“In the year since I became owner of Black Rhino, the company has become synonymous with UTV racing.  My goal has always been to promote the class in any way I can.  Black Rhino’s relationship with HDRA is just one more way for me to do this, it’s exciting and all of us at the shop are proud to be a part of this great series. UTV racing is one of the most cost effective classes there is and one of the most exciting to watch. I want anyone out there who has the passion and the interest in this class to know that Black Rhino is there to help them get started; all they need to do is pick up the phone and call. For those already active in the sport, this is another great opportunity to do what they love, race!” Osborn stated.

Roger Norman of HDRA said, “Kenny and I are neighbors with our off road businesses.  I drove by one day and it just clicked!  The two of us could work together to make a difference in off road racing by building up the UTV class. UTV racing is one of the most important classes in off road racing. There are so many manufacturers producing UTVs, the market has the most potential for growth.   Because of its affordability, anyone can buy a UTV, make it race ready and compete.”

Jake Velasco, Team Manager for Norman Motorsports said, “HDRA is excited to announce our new relationship with Black Rhino. We feel that Kenny and Black Rhino will attract  UTV racers to come race in this evolving race series. This will allow the off-road racers to bring family and friends out to support their racing addiction. We at HDRA are planning new ways to attract spectators out to our events with the use of freestyle motocross and Navy Seal recruiting officers will also be on hand recruiting the younger generations while action packed off-road racing is going on.”

High Desert Racing Association (HDRA) is a professional off-road racing organization based in Las Vegas, NV. HDRA currently sanctions off-road racing events in both Nevada and California.

HDRA was re-introduced to the desert racing scene in late 2011 by long time desert racing enthusiasts Roger Norman, Robert Gross and Ken Flippin. Together with a core group of other experienced desert racing personnel, HDRA is committed to move desert racing to new dimensions. Their focus is desert racing FOR RACERS… BY RACERS.

The HDRA 2012 schedule includes five races ranging from 10-12 mile multi-lap DesertCross courses all the way to a 500-mile long distance cross-country desert race.

MURRAY MOTORSPORTS DRIVES CAN-AM COMMANDER 1000 X TO VICTORY IN BITD MINT 400

Murray Motorsports / Can-Am Commander 1000 X
Valcourt, Québec, March 28, 2012 – Can-Am X-Team racers Derek and Jason Murray piloted their Murray Motorsports / Can-Am Commander 1000 X to the UTV class victory in the 2012 Best In The Desert Mint 400 race in Las Vegas, Nev. Driving the Can-Am X-Team-supported Desert Toyz Commander 1000, racer Cory Sappington finished second and joined the Murrays on the UTV class podium. The Mint 400, dubbed the single largest off-road event in the United States, allowed side-by-side vehicles to compete along side the automotive field for the first time in the history of the race.

“I just couldn’t be more proud of our guys and the way they each drove their Can-Am Commander side-by-sides in these grueling conditions,” stated Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am. “It was definitely a historic weekend of desert racing for Can-Am, the Commander 1000 and our X-Team racers. The Murrays and Sappington’s team deserve a lot of credit for all their hard work and dedication that they each put into preparing their machines and for putting the Commander on the top two spots of podium in the first ever Mint 400 UTV race.”

Murray Motorsports, winners of two of the last three BITD UTV class races, started 18th out of 30 competitors. However, the team kept pushing forward, picking competitors off one by one. With 10 miles remaining, they caught Sappington and raced ahead for the class overall, becoming the first side-by-side and Can-Am Commander 1000 to cross the Mint 400 finish line. The Murrays finished in 4:38.58, roughly five minutes ahead of the second place team of Sappington and co-pilot Jim Sharp. The two Commander racing teams finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the overall Mint 400 two-lap race standings.

“I really want to thank everyone at BRP for all their help and support. We really want to keep this momentum going into the next race. We had absolutely no issues with our Can-am Commander 1000,” said Derek Murray. “The organizers really treated all the UTV finishers like kings, as we were recognized on stage with our award for the UTV class overall immediately after Robby Gordon was presented his for the Pro truck overall.”

BRP to Produce Specialized Motorized Vehicles Based on Commander Platform

Can-Am Commander 1000
SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC – March 27, 2012 – BRP will assemble specialized motorized vehicles derived from its line of products in a new plant located in Sherbrooke. This facility will concentrate on assembling customized vehicles to meet the requirements of governments, municipalities, institutions and agencies, as well as individual consumers.

“This decision allows us to first assemble gasoline-powered vehicles with specific requirements from our existing products for which we already have orders from the Middle East,” said José Boisjoli, president and CEO. ”We will also make the most of the technologies developed at the Centre de technologies avancées BRP-University de Sherbrooke (CTA) and produce zero-emission electric vehicles.”

One of the specialized products being assembled at this new facility, the prototype of the Can Am Commander electric side-by-side vehicle, was introduced in Montréal last summer during Club BRP. In light of the reaction from dealers, distributors and the media from around the world, BRP is going ahead with marketing and selling the Can-Am Commander electric side-by-side vehicle.

“We will be using the same marketing and distribution strategy that we used for our Can-Am Spyder roadster,” said Mihai Rasidescu, vice-president, Specialized Vehicles Group. “We will recruit from within our existing dealer network to develop the business and gradually expand as market demand grows. We will go out in phases and, starting July 1, 2012, the Can-Am Commander electric side-by-side vehicle will be on sale at some BRP dealers in Québec, Ontario and Alberta, and in California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Texas and Virginia.”

The first Can-Am Commander electric side-by-side vehicle goes to Sherbrooke University, BRP’s partner in the CTA that developed the vehicle’s electric technology. The vehicle can reach a speed of 40 km/h and has a range of between 40 and 160 km, depending on driving habits, vehicle speed, terrain conditions, weather temperature and battery type.

The new assembly plant will create 20 new jobs in Sherbrooke and will grow according to demand.

Teryx Adventure Ride Lake Havasu to the Hualapai Mountain Resort

By Jon Rall

We had an overcast day as it had rained the night before the ground of the desert was moist and no dust as we left Lake Havasu.  We drove about 10 miles out on trails that went up to peaks and down in gullies.  We stopped to look at Lake Havasu in the distance as it was a really pretty site, but we were headed away from the lake and up in to the mountains.  The four Teryx’s, three Teryx4 and one Teryx started again back on to all types of terrain rocky and up hills and down hills and through many washes and through gorges with high rock walls on either sides of us.  It was really pretty to see the AZ cactus all around us.  The Teryx units handles great on all the different types of terrain that the desert was throwing at us.

The group stopped several times to admire the beautiful scenery, and the mountain range ahead that we would climb.  We could also see ahead the weather was starting to change to snow and rain.  Just as we had started to climb the mountains we had some rain that turned in to hail and then in to snow.  The trails started to disappear in the snow but the Teryx kept on powering through, even with the snow coming down as hard as it did.

Slogging through the snow on the way to Hualapai Mountain Resort
The group continued on and  quickly realized this ride was turning into an adventure.  At this point we were on tight slippery trails yet the Teryx offered a sense of security, comfort and power to tackle on the terrain. We really relied heavily on the GPS as the trails disappeared in the white snow. We arrived at the Hualapai Mountain Resort (owned by a retired Judge from Lake Havasu and his wife) at about 3:00 p.m.  We were cold and wet but could not believe what we had just accomplished.  We all had huge smiles as it was really an adventure day covering 110 miles in all types of weather and terrain.

The people at the resort were really surprised to see us as they did not think we would have been able to make it.  They offered a really nice menu and we were able to fill up on some great food before they closed.  As we ate we watched out the window as the snow kept falling.  That night the news forecasted another 1 to 2 feet of new powder by morning.

Kawasaki Teryx4 in the snow
Fresh snow on the Teryx4 in the morning
The forecast turned out to be correct as we woke to about two feet of fresh snow.  With the restaurant closed due to the weather we munched on snacks that we had brought with us. We had another 110 miles back to Lake Havasu and decided to get an early start.

We wiped off the Teryx units as they had a ton of snow on them.  We layered up and started out on the trails once again We were going through deep snow with now problem up hills and down hills on the Teryx.  It was fun to see all the deer running alongside going through the snow.  It was fun to see cactus with so much snow on them.  We were going back a different way so all day we were seeing new sites and terrain.

Kawasaki Teryx4
Teryx4 coming down the mountain
We finally started getting back down to the floor of the desert and running out of the snow.  Right before we got out of the snow we saw something standing right in the middle of the trail.  As we got closer to it we saw how big it was.  It was a huge cow that I think wanted to know why we were on this trail!  He was accompanied by a small herd of cows and bulls, and some had quite large horns that we did not want to test on the side doors of the Teryx.  The large cow finally moved out of our way but not without a stare down.
We finally made it to a lunch spot in Wikieup, AZ.  We all had some warm food and re-fueled the Teryx’s as we had gone a long way on a tank of fuel.  It was really nice that the Teryx has over 7 gallons of fuel so you can do long trips like this.  Lunch was fun as we were able to warm up and fill our bellies and get ready for the next 50 miles to Lake Havasu.

It was fun again getting back on the trail as we had to climb one last range of mountains back in the snow for a few miles and then back down to the desert floor for the final run to Havasu.  It was a really nice ride as it had warmed up and we had started peeling off layers of cloths we had on to keep warm on the morning ride.  The Teryx had just been in two feet of snow and now we were in dust and rocks and the winding trail’s and could see Lake Havasu in the distance.  We arrived back in Havasu at about 3:30pm.  We all got out of the Teryx and just sat on our trailer for a few minutes and talked about what we had just experienced in the last two days and over 200 miles of adventure.

I would like to thank our guides Richie Hudson and Rick “Wally” Wallace of Side X Side Outfitterz for navigating us through the snow and adverse conditions to our destinations.  It was really quite the adventure!

Rockstar Racing Girls Team Up with Dragonfire Racing for the Mint 400 Race

By Lacrecia Beurrier

There were 30 UTVs on the start line for the 2012 Mint 400 and we started dead last! We knew we would have our work cut out for us with our 800 RZR and slew of 900’s. Though we were racing sportsman, our ultimate goal is to place well overall.  Our plan was to drive smart and pick them off one by one. The day started off well.  We were at a good pace and began passing UTVs. The carnage out there so early in the race was amazing! We passed 5 or 6 UTVss when my navigator became disoriented and thought that we had made a wrong turn somewhere around mile 10. I should have followed my gut instinct, but I followed his and we made a wide turn and ran back (off the course of course) about 2 miles. We began to see the big trucks coming back our way and knew that we were mistaken. We turned around again and headed back. Some guys in a broken Trophy Lite were nice enough to point us back to the track. I’m sure they thought we were complete idiots!

Back on track, we now knew we had to pass all those cars again and make up some serious time! We caught up to them in pit 1. We didn’t pit so we got our spot back and began to work on the rest of the pack. We diced with a pretty fast Rhino in the whoops for a while, but I guess he grew tired of playing of with us and pulled over. We got bumped by Cook and let him go. We later saw them off the side with a problem. We got passed by a few 1800 cars including Robby Gordon. We were trying to pass another RZR and came to a big silt berm. He barreled around both of us and went into the berm throwing a huge cloud of silt. It was slow motion as we watched it come at us and then it was lights out! We finished our pass on the RZR, wiped our shields clean and motored on. We were banging on the rev limiter across the lake beds, hit pit 2 and waved to our crew as we went on through. We made it back to main pit for fuel just time as the motor started sputtering! I’m sure our detour out there messed up our fuel mileage. They fueled us up and changed a rear tire. We didn’t even know it was flat! The crew told us that we now in the top 10, which was all I was hoping for with the big fast UTVs out there!

Happy about that, we changed co-drivers and headed back out. We soon found out that her headset was giving gobs of feedback and we could not communicate. Bummer, but she is great with hand signals! We passed a few UTVs with problems on the side of the road and began to get a bunch more 1800 traffic. They were very polite and patient. At one point I pulled up on a tall embankment to let them go and I don’t know if we slid down or they came over a little early but we have a nice swipe on our driver door! No harm, no foul, we kept pushing. The crew called and asked us to stop in pit 2 for a splash of fuel and wanted to change that rear tire again. Weird I thought. Turns out they had given me a tire without tireballs, but didn’t want me to know so that I wouldn’t change my pace! To help ensure we would make it to the finish line they wanted a tireball laden tire back on the car!! We kept a good fast pace, dicing with Bobby Rabar in the rough stuff, and then he would blow by us on the flats. Man, that car makes a lot of dust!. As we headed in to the finish, he came up behind me again. I though it was a bigger car and let him go. If I would have known it was him, I would have tried to keep him back there for a better overall finish. I did give him a friendly wave as he dusted me out again; I hope he has no hard feelings about that!

We crossed the line at 5:16. Good enough for a 1st in class and 4th overall!!!  Thank you to my husband, Eric, for building us such a tough car. Thank you to my crew for their fast pit stops! My son, Trevor, for putting up with his mom racing! Thank you to our newest sponsor, Dragonfire Racing! We are hoping for even better things to come!. Thanks to DragonFire Racing, GBC, Tireballs, AO Coolers, Parker Oil, Joels T’s, Rugged Radio, RZR Wraps, Fox Shocks, Turbo Resource and Hilgers Trucking! We absolutely can not do this without all your support! Thank you to my fans! I love you all! Special thanks to Joey, Rusty, Wally, Jon and all the other media for the great photos!!!! We can’t wait to see you all again!

RJ Anderson Dominates WORCS RD3 in Lake Havasu

Riverside, CA 3/21/2012 - RJ Anderson and the Walker Evans Racing (WER) team headed to Lake Havasu, AZ last weekend and it wasn't because they wanted to partake in the spring break madness. No, RJ and the team had work to do and work is exactly what they did. After coming up short in round 2 RJ was ready for a win in the Production 1000 class in his Polaris RZR XP900. With his Holz Racing built machine fully prepped RJ lined up next to 30 other class racers and took them all to school putting in the races fastest lap time and winning in dominating fashion. RJ was a full minute ahead of the second place finisher when the checkered flag dropped dominating the class and the race. With this win RJ moved into first in points giving him added confidence and motivation heading towards round 4 of the series. Needless to say, RJ fully enjoyed the tight and rough course at Crazyhorse Campground in Lake Havasu, AZ.

In other news, Walker Evans Racing is proud to announce that RJ Anderson will now be racing with the Stronghold Motorsports team for 2012 at the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS). Off-Road Races Scheduled for Imperial Valley

Las Vegas NV  - Off-road racing returns to the El Centro/Plaster City area Saturday, April 7th. The Imperial 250 event is sanctioned by High Desert Racing Association (HDRA) and is expected to draw more than 200 competitors racing in 20 different classes. Vehicle types range from the ground-shaking unlimited trucks and buggies to the ever popular stock VW Beetles.

The high-energy weekend kicks off with the start position drawing on Thursday evening, April 5th. This drawing determines the starting order for the racers and is a much anticipated part of the weekend. A good start position means less dust for the racers! Drawing will start at 7 p.m. at Puerto Nuevo Bar and Grill in El Centro and the public is invited to join in the festivities.

Technical Safety Inspection for all race vehicles and equipment vendor row will take place on Friday, April 6th, at Inland Valley Mall between noon and 7 p.m. This outdoor event is an opportunity for everyone to see the race vehicles, talk to drivers and crews and be a part of the excitement. The renowned FreestyleMX stunt team of X-Games competitors will be performing to add extra thrills to this afternoon event.

On Saturday racers will complete multiple laps on a rugged desert course measuring over 50 miles in length. The course includes sections of both Plaster City East and West. Start/Finish is located west of the gypsum plant off Evan Hewes Highway.

Race day, April 7th, features two separate off-road races. Morning race is for smaller vehicles and first vehicles leave the start line at 6:15 a.m. Two vehicles will be flagged off every 20 seconds until the entire field is underway.

Start time for the second race is 1:00 p.m. and features the really fast classes of vehicles. Some of these vehicles are capable of speeds of well over 100 miles per hour across the open desert. Again, two vehicles will leave every 20 seconds. Race start will be preceded by a fly-by of military aircraft at approximately 12:30 p.m. This will start a truly awesome afternoon of racing.

Spectators are welcome for the full day of racing excitement. Three designated spectator areas will allow everyone to view the action from different vantage points. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted by off-duty Navy Seals with proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors Project.

High Desert Racing Association (HDRA) is a professional off-road sanctioning body headquartered in Las Vegas NV. The organization conducts both long and short course off-road races in Southern California and Nevada. Following the Plaster City race HDRA will move north to Reno NV for the Fireworks 500, a 500-mile event scheduled for July 7th. Future races will include additional sites in the Southwest.

New Hybrid Crew Cab UTV from American SportWorks

American SportWorks Crew Cab Hybrid

The world’s first true hybrid gas/electric utility vehicle has hit the market, thanks to creative thinking and good-old American ingenuity from American SportWorks.  This hybrid UTV is truly unique.  Not only does it feature completely integrated gas and electric drivetrains, but they power a crew cab vehicle with two forward-facing bench seats.  The result is one of the most flexible and capable off-road utility vehicles that we have ever encountered.
The American SportWorks Crew Cab Hybrid is a four-wheel drive off-road utility vehicle that employs two completely separate and yet integrated drivetrains.  A familiar 653cc Subaru OHV V-twin engine that makes 22 horsepower and 33.6 foot-pounds of torque powers the rear wheels, while a 24kw 48-volt electric motor (juiced by four 12V Trojan deep-cycle batteries) powers the front wheels.  These drivetrains can be used separately to create a two-wheel drive scenario or used together to create a four-wheel drive scenario.
American SportWorks Crew Cab Hybrid

In electric-only mode, the electric motor powers the front wheels to create an extremely quiet, smooth, clean, and inexpensive driving experience that is perfect for most of the short trips and duties that owners are likely to encounter around their property.  In gas-only mode, the big Subaru engine delivers enough power to the rear wheels to muscle up tough terrain and to pull heavy payloads on longer trips.  (The gas engine can also recharge the batteries for even longer ranges.)  Use both simultaneously, and the resulting four-wheel drive provides the capability to dig through mud and all sorts of slippery conditions.
An extended 104-inch wheelbase and two forward-facing bench seats create standard seating for four adults in combination with a tilting 400-pound capacity polyethylene dump bed.  Plus, with the addition of the optional “S” series extended steel cargo bed and integrated rearward-facing flip seat, you can add two more riders, making room for a total of six adults.
American SportWorks Crew Cab Hybrid

A double A-arm front suspension with adjustable shocks and articulated rear swing arm suspension with quad adjustable shocks provide up to 3 inches of travel.  Hydraulic front disc brakes and hydraulic rear drum brakes provide confident stopping ability and regenerative braking to recharge the batteries.  And it is loaded with other premium features too, including a locking differential, 25-inch tires, 35-watt headlamps, 3-point lap and shoulder belts, and a 2-inch rear receiver hitch.
Perhaps the best part is that all of this is made in America at the American SportWorks assembly plant in Roseland, Louisiana.  For more information on the Crew Cab Hybrid or any  of the Landmaster utility vehicles, you can contact Power Equipment Solutions, LLC in Vandalia, Ohio at 800-466-7149 or www.powerequipmentsolutions.com.

Commanding Victory At “The General” For Yokley Racing

Mesa, AZ — March 23, 2012 — Picking up right where he left off, defending champ William Yokley went down to Georgia all fired up and blazed a trail at the opening round of GNCC racing for 2012. The National Guard/Polaris/Coastal/DragonFire/Yokley Race Team RZR XP 900 finished 1st overall and 1st in the Open Modified UTV class at “The General” GNCC race in Washington, Georgia, on the weekend of March 17.

“First overall is what we like to see,” says Highland. “We are proud of the fact that DragonFire’s top quality components contributed to William’s commanding win at The General GNCC.” Speaking of race-winning technology, Yokley’s XP900 included:

CAN-AM OFF-ROAD RACERS HAVE EARLY SEASON SUCCESS IN 2012 GNCC SERIES

Valcourt, Québec, March 23, 2012 – With two rounds of ATV racing and one round of side-by-side racing completed, several Can-am® ATV and side-by-side racers lead their class in points or are in the top three with 11 ATV rounds remaining and 5 side-by-side rounds remaining in the 2012 Can-Am / GNCC series. Team Motoworks / Can-Am DS 450™ EFI racer Chris Bithell is third in the XC1 Pro class points after two rounds. Can-Am X-Team racer Bryan Buckhannon dominated both 4x4 Open class races aboard his Outlander™ 800R. Cliff Beasley also posted two consecutive class wins on the Renegade® 800R 4x4.

“Cliff and Bryan are as fast as ever and are already in the driver’s seat in their respective 4x4 classes,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am. “Even though there is plenty more racing left in the season, we’re content to have our riders positioned where they are after two rounds of Can-Am / GNCC racing. Bithell currently sits third in the XC1 class standings and I predict he's about ready to show us what he's made of as the series heads to some of his favorite tracks. I'm proud to see Kyle Chaney put the Commander side-by-side on the XC1 UTV Modified podium in Georgia in his first race with the Motoworks / Can-Am team.”

Round 1 - Florida
Bithell was at the back of the pack at the start of the XC1 Pro class in River Ranch, Fla., but quickly rode his DS 450 into the top five. By lap four, he took over the lead. Bithell fell to third on the final lap, but maintained that position to earn a spot on the XC1 class podium.

“It was really rough out there; brutal to be more exact, but the quad kept going,” said Bithell. “We have done a lot of training and put a lot of hard work into this and I think this is going to be a really good season.”
Buckhannon impressed aboard his new 2012 Outlander 800R EFI 4x4. Seeking to repeat as 4x4 Open class champion, Buckhannon overcame a mid-race mistake to win his class and earn the overall top spot on the morning podium. UXC Racing / Can-Am 4x4 Open class racer Michael Swift finished in third.

Beasley, riding his UXC Racing / Can-Am Renegade 800 X® xc, came out on top in the U2 class and also earned the final spot on the overall morning podium. Defending 4x4 Senior Class Champion and Can-Am X-Team racer Forrest Whorton started the 2012 season with a victory over fellow Can-Am X-Team racer Mike Penland. Can-Am X-Team competitor and Outlander 500 racer Kevin Trantham won 4x4 Lites class, leading from start to finish.

Round 2 - Georgia
Can-Am racers claimed four class wins and took second in the XC1 UTV Modified class at The General GNCC held in Washington, Ga.
In ATV action, Bithell got a mid-pack start in the XC1 Pro class, but soon rallied to join the racer leaders. At one point, the Motoworks / Can-Am racer moved into second overall. However, round two ran 20 minutes longer than the usual two-hour GNCC event and this caused a fuel shortage for Bithell. After taking on a splash of fuel for his ATV, Bithell charged ahead to retain a top-five finish in the XC1 class.

Beasley won the U2 class by more than a minute. Buckhannon, Trantham and Whorton also won their respective classes to post back-to-back wins to start the 2012 season. Buckhannon finished more than eight minutes better than second place in the 4x4 Open class. Trantham won the 4x4 Lites class and was second on the overall morning podium. Whorton notched the 4x4 Senior class win aboard his Outlander 800R.
In the XC1 UTV Modified class, Motoworks / Can-Am Commander™ 1000 X® racer Kyle Chaney was in the top three all day. On the final lap, Chaney made his move into second, but couldn’t overtake the leader. It was the team’s first Pro-level GNCC side-by-side podium.

Defending XC2 UTV Limited class champion Team Travalena (Can-Am X-Team) earned a hard-fought second-place finish in Georgia. Fellow Can-am X-Team competitor Mike Penland made his class debut in the Commander 1000 X and finished sixth in the class.

National Guard / Polaris / Coastal Yokley GNCC Side by Side Race Report - March 17, 2012

National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / DragonFire / Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished 1st Overall and 1st in the Side by Side Open Modified Class. National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing Team driver Scott Kiger finished 3rd Overall and 3rd in the same class. There were 46 total entries with 24 Open Modified teams in the race today. William’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Scott’s passenger was Joe Waligora.

Summary – Side by Side

The first Side by Side GNCC race of the season is a good way to see if all the off-season testing and preparation will produce a good finish. The team has been busy preparing their new Ranger RZR XP 900’s with the goal of defending the Open Modified National Championship. Most of the sponsors remained the same with the addition of Yoshimura, Keizer and Big Country Powersports. Yoshimura supplied the motor kit that can be purchased by anyone through Yoshimura.

The Washington track is hard packed red Georgia clay featuring ruts, square-edged bumps and mudholes. A rain shower about 1 hour before the start made the conditions ideal for racing. The sun came out and the temp was in the 80’s. Since the Yokley National Guard Polaris Side by Sides finished 1st and 3rd in season points last year, they started on the front row. When the flag dropped, Yokley led into the first turn with Kiger right behind. They ran first and second for a while until Kiger got hung up in some trees, forcing him to back up and lose some positions.

Yokley lead the entire 1 hour race, and after some close competition early on, was able to finish more than 2 minutes ahead of Team Motoworks in 2nd place. Scott Kiger finished a close 3rd, putting both National Guard Polaris machines on the podium. The machines ran flawlessly and strong the entire race. The team will get ready for the next GNCC Side by Side event at the Big Buck in Union, SC on April 14.
